Alta has been dubbed the 'city of the Northern Lights' since 2000, and for a good reason! The Sami people that occupied this region admired and theorised the Aurora lights centuries ago. Borealis Alta is a good place where you can uncover these myths and find out the science behind the lights.
Located in the new church at Alta, the Northern Lights Cathedral, Borealis Alta presents interactive exhibitions showcasing the various stories behind the Aurora Borealis. They have created a unique experience putting together the science and myths surrounding this fascinating phenomenon. The exhibits here include photographs from the early 1900s, a timeline of the Northern Lights research, a singing game, touchscreen activities, videos of the lights, etc.
